General
• Acupuncture does not hurt. After insertion you may feel some sensations; however, these are very different to pain. The sensations are hard to describe as they are variable depending on the point used and the individual receiving treatment.
• You may occasionally feel a small electric-like sensation that lasts less than a second. This is associated with a nervous system response we are trying to tap into to achieve results.
• Ultimately, acupuncture is deeply relaxing, inducing a meditative or even sleeping state.
• After introductions Maya will take a comprehensive health history, look at your tongue and pulse as well as conduct any relevant physical examinations. Maya will then conduct your acupuncture treatment.
• Fine sterile needles will be inserted, there may also be the application of moxa, cups and electroacupuncture if this is appropriate. You will then be left for some rest time before the pins are removed. Appointments last 45-60 minutes.
• Yes. Private health rebates are available for those who have acupuncture treatments and allied health as part of their cover.
• Claims can be made in the clinic at the time of your appointment and online by submitting your invoice.
• Both are variations of gentle Japanese style acupuncture, that focuses on painless needling with either immediate practitioner or patient perceived changes in the body. Maya has undertaken mentorship under the guidance of David Haynes and Catherine Kato, as well as completing additional study to hone her craft.
• Kiiko Matsumoto Style (KMS) acupuncture is a palpation-based style of acupuncture based on classical Chinese medicine principles and the teachings of Kiiko Matsumoto. By using touch to guide the treatment each patient receives a specialised treatment for their specific concerns.
• Meridian therapies style acupuncture uses both non-retained and retained needling to elicit immediate changes in the pulse. These instant changes in the pulse are perceived by the practitioner, and indicate the treatment is supporting what the body needs.
